Abstract:

Introduction

Perth Airport represents a high-risk environment for medical emergencies, particularly cardiac arrests, due to its large transient population and logistical complexities. The airport employs Medics with a limited scope of practice to manage on-site medical events. However, the critical nature of cardiac arrests necessitates a seamless, coordinated response between airport Medics and St John Ambulance WA Paramedics to optimize patient outcomes.

Design

This initiative proposes an intensive workshop on High Performance CPR, designed to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and skill alignment between Medics and Paramedics. The workshop will incorporate scenario-based training and evidence-based practices to enhance the efficacy of cardiac arrest interventions.

Setting

Perth Airport, in collaboration with St John Ambulance WA.

Intervention

The workshop will deliver hands-on training focusing on synchronized roles, communication protocols, and advanced resuscitation techniques. Emphasis will be placed on integrating Medics’ immediate response capabilities with Paramedics’ advanced life support skills, ensuring a unified approach to cardiac emergencies.

Outcomes/Measurement

The initiative aims to improve response times, resuscitation quality, and patient survival rates. Success will be measured through pre- and post-workshop performance assessments, feedback from participants, and analysis of cardiac arrest response data at Perth Airport.

Conclusion

This collaborative training model aligns with the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards, promoting clinical governance, patient safety, and quality improvement. By bridging the gap between Medics and Paramedics, the initiative seeks to establish a psychosocially safe and highly effective emergency response environment at Perth Airport.
