Biography:

Lachlan is the Operations Team Leader for Clinical Resources within SAAS. He has been the SA Chair of ACP since inception and is employed as a casual academic at The University of Adelaide. He is an eager technologist recently presenting at the Cisco Live conference with over 6000 attendees.

Abstract:

SAAS operate across 1million square kilometres on a variety of platforms. Our staff are equipped with high value assets, and on occasion, these are misplaced creating the need for an asset tracking system. As scope of practice continues to increase, the need for connected biomedical equipment also increases. I was tasked to develop a 'connectivity pilot' that is far more than a simple internet connection in our vehicles.

We formulated a team with multi-disciplinary representation from clinical services, technical services, network engineers, Mader engineers and the broader ICT industry. With the right people in the room, we were able to create a cost effective and efficacious solution to meet our needs now and into the future.

This solution provides a multi carrier uplink into the secure SA Health network. This uplink utilises Telstra, Optus and in rural locations Starlink. This system enables the transmission of the following; clinical data, vehicle telemetry (odometer, fluid levels, engine codes, transmission codes, emissions and crash indicator), asset tracking utilising Bluetooth low energy beacons and has the potential to enable general duties ambulance CT scanners (MicroX) and RFID linen scanning.

There has been multi 'real life use cases' where the patient has ultimately benefited from this technology.

Work has also commenced to utilise existing WIFI access points across the network to scan our asset tracking beacons in all hospitals/ stations.

This is an engaging and entertaining presentation on a traditionally dry topic. This was presented at Cisco Live and was well received.
