Abstract

This presentation will guide the group through a Community Paramedic’s initial encounter with a patient battling addiction, highlighting the challenging and often lengthy journey toward recovery. Treating this complex population presents unique difficulties, including financial barriers, co-occurring mental health conditions, and a lack of support systems. While working with these patients can be deeply rewarding when they succeed, it can also be discouraging when progress is slow or setbacks occur. However, as patient advocates, we remain committed to their well-being. We continue to motivate, educate, and collaborate with a network of agencies to achieve the best possible outcomes for our patients. We are the bearers of hope. Join us as we follow the journeys of two patients with vastly different outcomes, illustrating the reality of working with this challenging yet important population.
