NSW Ambulance has redesigned its clinical practice guideline development process to ensure that the best and most current evidence is utilised to create high-quality patient care. To achieve this, a guideline review and development Community of Practice has been established to apply three different methodologies depending on the strength of the evidence source. The three methodologies used include GRADE, ADAPTE, and NSWA-DAPTED.
The GRADE review process has been adopted for an ab-initio assessment of the evidence to support clinical practice when high-quality guidelines do not exist. The ADAPTE methodology is used to adapt other clinical practice guidelines to meet the specific needs of NSW Ambulance. In contrast, NSWA-DAPTED is used for source guidelines from thigh quality source guidelines or guidelines internal to NSW Health. These adaptive methods allow NSW Ambulance to make informed and evidence-based decisions tailored to the organisation’s needs.
The AGREE II tool will be applied at the completion of the guideline development process. This ensures patients receive the highest quality care consistent with current evidence-based practices.
The implementation of these methodologies has enabled NSW Ambulance to create a more efficient and effective guideline development process. These guidelines are instrumental in the delivery of high-quality care to patients and ensure that patient-centred care is at the forefront of all decision-making within the organisation. An overview if this process would be beneficial to CAA congress attendees.
