Abstract:
Situation: During my time on road, I have noticed some poor treatment of vulnerable patients within ambulance and the broader healthcare. I wanted to understand what could be done to advocate for these patients. In recent years implicit bias has become more understood and discussed within the Ambulance context. I felt there was more that needed to be done to raise awareness of the impact implicit bias has on patients and their outcomes.
Task: I wanted to create something that would capture attention, be informative on the extent of the problem as well as offering some solutions that people can apply to their everyday practice. I wanted it to be bright and bold with images and key words.
Action: I researched the literature around implicit bias as well as finding some ted talks on lived experience. I added them to a bright fun poster to attract attention.
Result: The result is a visually appealing informative poster on implicit bias. This poster was distributed at the EMS conference in Queenstown July 2023, to University of Southern Queensland final year students in 2023 and within my local ambulance area.
