Introduction
Major incidents, such as mass gathering casualty events, require coordinated, efficient responses to minimize harm and optimize patient outcomes. Event Health Services (EHS), with expertise in managing mass gatherings casualty scenarios, plays a pivotal role alongside St John Ambulance WA Paramedics. This initiative focuses on developing an Operational Guideline to integrate EHS and Emergency Ambulance services, ensuring seamless, collaborative management of mass gathering major incidents.
Design
The guideline will be crafted through interdisciplinary consultation and best practice frameworks, providing structured protocols for joint responses to major incidents. The document aims to standardize communication, triage, and operational workflows between EHS and Paramedics.
Setting
Event venues and public spaces across Western Australia, in collaboration with St John Ambulance WA.
Intervention
The Operational Guideline will establish clear roles, responsibilities, and escalation pathways during major incidents. Training sessions and scenario-based drills will accompany the rollout to ensure all stakeholders are proficient in guideline application and coordination.
Outcomes/Measurement
The initiative seeks to enhance response times, inter-agency communication, and patient outcomes during major incidents. Effectiveness will be assessed through performance audits, post-incident reviews, and feedback from EHS and Paramedics.
Conclusion
This Operational Guideline aligns with the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards, specifically addressing the governance and preparedness for major incident management. By uniting EHS and Paramedics under a cohesive framework, the initiative aims to foster a culture of safety, accountability, and efficiency in mass casualty response.
